2 workers gang-raped in Jessore

JESSORE: Two female jute mill workers were gang-raped in Kashipur Mandartala area of Manirampur of the district on Sunday night.

Police detained three people in this connection.

The detainees are Hafizur Rhaman, 28, son of Yunus Ali, Jahangir Hossain, 26, son of Aziz Morol, and Ripon Hossain, 25, son of Earshad Ali. All are hailed from Bijoyrampur village of the upazila.

Locals said the female workers were returning home from their workplace at Akij Jute Mills Limited by bus on Sunday night.

The bus carrying the workers began traveling at 10:00pm. After dropping the workers at different places, the bus reached at the area.  The two girls were inside it only and waiting to reach home. Some 10 to 12 miscreants intercepted the bus and dragged the workers to roadside bushes and gang-raped them.

The drivers ran away and informed police. Immediately raiding the area, police rescued the girls and nabbed three evildoers.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Monirampur Police Station Inspector (investigation) Enamul said “On information, immediate actions have been taken.”

“Arrangements have been taken for medical examination to the girls under police custody and process is underway to file a case in this connection,” he added.
