DHAKA: Counting is going on after voting in 73 upazilas of 35 districts in fifth phase of elections on Monday amid stray incidents of violence.

The counting of votes started immediately after the end of voting at 4:00pm.

The voting began at 8:00am and continued for eight hours without any break.

In this phase of elections the schedule was announced for 74 upazilas. Due to Tangail-8 by-polls, the Election Commission had postponed the elections in Basail upazila of the district.

Earlier on Saturday, EC postponed polls in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila due to court’s order. But, elections were held at Sripur upazila of Gazipur district. It was scheduled for 3rd phase of elections and later postponed.

The Army personnel along with RAB, BGB, Police and Ansar were deployed in the electoral areas to avert any untoward situation and polls violence.

All kinds of campaign were halted from Saturday midnight.

The commission declared a public holiday for the day in the polling areas.

The upazilas are Birol, Parbatipur and Hakimpur upazillas in Dinajpur, Domar in Nilphamari, Kaliganj in Lamonirhat, Fulchhari and Sundarganj in Gaibandha, Sadar upazilla in Bogra.

It also include Poba in rajshahi, Belkuchi and Shahjadpur in Sirajganj, Bera and Pabna Sadar upzillas, Alamdanga and Chuadanga sadar upazillas, Debhata, Tala, and Sathkhira sadar upazillas, Amtoli, Bamna, Patharghata and Borguna Sadar upazillas, Doshmina and Kalapara upazillas in Patuakhali

The list continue Ghatail, Mirzapur, Gopalpur, Tangail sadar upazilla, Madarganj in Jamalpur, Gafargaon, trishal and Nandail in Mymensingh, Ashtagram and Pakundia in Kishorganj, Tongibari, lohajong and Shirajdikhan in Munshiganj, Kaliganj in Gazipur.

Monohardi, Raypur and Norshingdi sadar, Sonargaon, Rupganj and Araihazar in Narayanganj, Goalanda in rajbari, Bishwambapur and Tahirpur in Sunamganj, Bianibazar in Sylhet, Judi and rajnaga4r in Moulavibazar, Banichang in Hobiganj, Kashba, Ashuganj and Brammanbaria sadar are also in the list.

The other upazilas are Muradnagar and Chandina in Comilla, Chagalnaya in Feni, Subarnachhar and Hatia in Noakhali, Ramgoti sadar, Ramganj and Roypur, Swandip in Chittagong, Cox`s Bazar sadar, Teknaf and Ukhiya, Diginala in Khagrachhari, Rangamati sadar, Longdu, Rajstholi and Bilaichhari and Sripur in Gazipur.
