JHENAIDAH: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) held a smuggler with 24 gold bars after searching him from Jadobpur border area under Maheshpur upazila of the district on Monday.

The detainee is Sarowar, 28 and resident of the area.

RAB-6 sources said that, acting on a tip off, RAB personnel led a drive and held Sarwar along with 24 gold bars after searching while he was smuggling with his cohorts.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, his cohorts managed to flee the scene.

The weight of the gold bars is two kilograms and 400 grams worth Tk 1 crore.

RAB personnel handed him over to police and a case was filed against Sarwar with Maheshpur Police Station in this connection.

Captain of RAB-6 Squadron Leader Niaz Mohammad Faisal confirmed the matter to banglanews.
