US embassy introduces visa waiver

DHAKA: The US embassy’s consular section has announced interview waiver for certain Bangladeshi nonimmigrant applicants renewing their visas.

A press release from US Embassy made the disclosure on Wednesday.

The waiver programme will be effective for certain qualified applicants renewing their US visas and does not include the first-time applicants.

The Embassy, however, stresses that eligibility for the interview waiver does not guarantee a visa issuance nor does it guarantee that the interview will be waived.

According to the press release, qualified applicants will be those who are renewing a visa, are citizens or residents of Bangladesh and are currently residing in Bangladesh, and are applying for the same type of visa as previously issued. Their previous visa will have to have been issued on or after January 1, 2008.

The applicants could not have any visa refusal, revocation, losing or stolen histories along with no incurred violations of US immigration laws or regulations, the press release added.

The qualified applicants’ name, date, place of birth and nationality should not have changed since the previous visa was issued.

Depending on the type of visa being applied for, other requirements may be enforced. Interested applicants might ask for any other queries by sending email to [email protected].
