DHAKA: Ashraful Islam of the Daily Ittefaq and M Shahjahan Mia of the Daily Samakal were elected as president and secretary in Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC)-2013 on Wednesday night.

KM Shahidul Haque of BSS was elected as vice-president, Nasrin Geeti of Banglavision as joint secretary, Shahadat Rana of ATN News as treasurer, Sanjida Sultana of Dainik Bartaman as organizing secretary, MA Mannan Mia of Somoy TV as publicity and publications secretary, AKM Obaidur Rahman of Dainik Janakantha as office secretary, Ekramul Islam Biplob of Jugantor as sports and cultural affairs secretary and Shoaib Ahmed of Samakal was elected as training and research affairs secretary.

The 11 members of executive committee are Kaniz Fatema Luna from UNB, Humayun Kabir Tamal from Alokito Bangladesh, Anjuman Ara Shilpi from Bangladesh Somoy, Idris Madrazi from Naya Diganta, Kajol Keya from Bangladesh Pratidin (online version), Rita Bhowmik from Jugantor, Dipak Bhowmik from Dainik Destiny, Abdul Makim Chowdhury from Arthaniti Pratidin, Shah Matin Tipu from Banglabazar Patrika, Ahmed Tepantor from Amar Desh and Abu Kausar from Samakal.

Joint secretary of Dainik Jugantor Abu Taher performed the responsibilities as Chief Election Commissioner.

Other commissioners were Natunbarta.com’s editor Sardar Farid Ahmed, news editor of ATN News Mohsin Al Abbas, joint news editor of Dainik Ittefaq Ashok Kumar Singh and special correspondent of Dainik Janakantha Uttam Chakrabarty.

The voting started at 1:00pm and continued till 6:00pm without break at the auditorium of National Press Club.

Earlier, the annual meeting of DSEC started at 11:00am with DSEC Council president of Enayet Ferdous in the chair.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was the chief guest.

Prime Minister’s Information advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, director of Janata Bank Ltd Abu Naser, general secretary of DSEC M Shahjahan Mia, among others, addressed the occasion.
