DHAKA: Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy welcomed countrymen on the occasion of Bengali New Year.

Joy, in a status on his Facebook’s official page, said, “Shubho Nobo Borsho to everyone! We are Bengali with a thousand year old culture.”

“We fought for our Liberation and won our Independence. We are the nation of Bengalis and today is our New Year. My greetings to all my countrymen,” he added.

Joy said, “On this day of celebration, I remember the victims of the bomb attacks on our Pohela Boishak celebration during the BNP-Jamaat government`s term. Terrorists sponsored by BNP-Jamaat wanted to wipe out our culture in the name of religion.”

“The Awami League Government has not allowed that to happen. We will defend our culture and country against all terrorists. We have kept you safe from terrorists for the past five years and will continue to do so,” he added.
