DHAKA: After completion of taking submissions of both parties, Supreme Court Appellate Division decided to pass the verdict any day on Delwar Hossain Sayedee appeal against death penalty.
Besides, the court also rejected two petitions of the prosecution and the defense both in regarding Ibrahim Kutti’s murder case.
5-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Mujammel Haque passed the order.
Earlier on Tuesday the hearing on appeals challenging International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 verdict, which sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death has ended.
The court had fixed the date for Wednesday to pass order of the petitions filed by both prosecution and defence.
The prosecution had pleaded to uphold Sayedee’s death while the defence appealed for his exemption.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the prosecution while Khandakar Mahbub stood for the defence.
On February 28 in 2013, the ICT-1 sentenced Sayedee to death on two charges although it found him guilty on eight out of 20 charges brought against him.
Sayedee on March 28 of the same year filed an appeal with the Supreme Court seeking acquittal from eight charges.
The government on the same day submitted another appeal to the apex court seeking death penalty for Sayedee on the eight charges, which were proved before the tribunal.
