Punitive actions for doctors’ strike

DHAKA: Health and family welfare minister Mohammad Nasim Monday categorically said punitive actions would be taken against doctors if they call strike.

“I personally do not support any strike and the government also does not support it. So, punitive actions will be taken if they call strike,” he said.

The ruling Awami League lawmaker came up with the forewarning while addressing a program at Rajarbagh Police Line’s Central Hospital in the city.

Terming the attack on journalists by intern doctors at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as ‘disappointing’, the minister said, “An investigation committee has been formed in this connection. Punitive actions will be taken against the doctors who were involved with the incident.”

He added: “I will urge the Prime Minister to increase amount of budget in the health sector.”

With director of the police line hospital Abu Musa M Fakhrul Islam Khan in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by State Minister for Health Affairs Zahid Malek, IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, director general of RAB Mokhleshur Rahman and DMP Commissioner Benzir Ahmed.

Earlier, the minister handed over medical equipments of Tk 52 lakh to Abu Musa M Fakhrul Islam for the police line’s hospital.
