6 get life in Bagerhat murder case

BAGERHAT: A Bagerhat court on Tuesday awarded life-time imprisonment to six people in a case filed for killing a local contactor by hacking.

Judge SM Saiful Islam of the District and Sessions Judge passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.

The convicts are Abdul Sheikh and Abbas Sheikh, two siblings of Goal Bathan village under Rupsha upazila, Ajmal Hossain, Abdur Rahman, resident of Samantasena village, Arif Sheikh of Pachali village and Masud Rana, hailed from Mansa Charabot-tola village of Bagerhat’s Fakirhat upazila.

Besides, the court fined them Tk 10,000, in default; they have to serve one year more imprisonment.

The case statement said the convicts killed Sheikh Shafiuzzaman, a local contactor and fish traders on September 19 in 2006.

Wife of the deceased Nasima Begum filed a case against miscreants.

Later, Fakirhat Thana Sub-Inspector Gautam Chandra Mali submitted charge-sheet against them on February 28, 2007.
