Sirajganj transport strike called off

SIRAJGANJ: The indefinite strike, jointly enforced by district Bus and Motor workers’ Unions, in the district was called off on Sunday night.

 

In presence of Member of the parliament (MP) of Sirajganj Sadar constituency Professor Dr Habibe Millat Munna, the district motor Workers’ union and CNG-run Auto Rickshaw Workers’ Union declared the withdrawal of strike around 11:00pm.

 

MP Dr Habibe Millat told banglanews that following a dispute between two groups, the strike was called creating sufferings to mass people. And necessary steps will be taken further in this regard.

 

Deputy Commissioner Billal Hossain, Police Super SM Emran Hossain, Sadar Upazila Parisad Chairman Riaz Hossain, District Motor Workers’ Union General Secretary Ansar Ali, District Bus Owners’ Association president Zinnah al Mazi were present among others in the meeting.

 

Earlier on Saturday morning, at least ten people were injured in a clash between Sirajganj bus and CNG auto rickshaw workers.

 

Following the incident, after a joint meeting of District Motor Workers’ Union and Truck Workers’ Union, the indefinite strike was called.
