Worker dies, 100 more sick, road blocked

NARAYANGANJ: Workers blocked Narayanganj-Adamji-Demra road on Saturday morning following the death of a garment worker and fell sick more than 100 workers after drinking polluted water at a factory.

The deceased was identified as Dalia, residing at Mijmiji area under Siddhirganj of the district.

Sick workers informed banglanews that Dalia died after drinking polluted water at her working place, Supreme Knitwear, just after starting work on Saturday morning.

Later, 100 more workers also became sick, who have been admitted to Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital, they added.

However, workers blockade Narayanganj-Adamji-Demra road following the incident.

Supreme Knitwear Super Taijer Imran confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Narayanganj Industrial Police-4 acting Super Masud told that, after the death of a worker, others got panicked and become sick. Police rushed them to the hospital by their vehicles, the Police Super added.

Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital Super Shafiul Azam said that the pulse rate and pressure of all the admitted workers are okay. “They might have a panic attack,” he added.

Supreme Knitwear is a sister concern of Sinha Group, where more than 2000 workers are employed.
