9 cops hurt in B’baria gunfight

BRAHMANBARIA: Nine cops were injured in a gunfight with robbers in Sarail of the district on Saturday morning.

They are- Sub-Inspectors Ishtiak Ahmed, Abudul Alim, Abu Bakkar, Abdullah Khaled Sakib, constables Moinul Yusuf Rana Ibrahim, Shamol Mia and Mofazzal.

Meanwhile, police detained two dacoits with huge lethal weapons from the spot.

The detainees are Taklin alias Taikka, 28, son of Jur Ali, and Faruk, 30, son of Sundar Ali.

All the injured were sent to Sarail Upazila Health Complex and District Sadar Hospital and critically injured Dacoit Taikka shifted to Dhaka.

Sources said that the dacoits stopped two police laden auto rickshaws in Bariura area and seeing the police dacoits hurled cocktails to create panic. 

At one stage the dacoits opened fire aiming police and in reply police also fired 19 round bullets, leaving the police men and dacoits injured.

Sarail Thana Officer-in-Charge Arshad confirmed the matter to banglanews.
