‘RAJUK silent against illegal structures’

DHAKA: Many structures including skyscrapers are being constructed illegally in city. Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), city development authorities, is taking little steps against them, said housing and public works minister Mosharraf Hossain.

They should take action against these illegal structures, he added.

The minister commented in the inaugural program of country’s first earthquake exhibition at Housing and Building Research Institute in city’s Darus Salam area on Wednesday.

The exhibition, jointly organized by Earthquake Society and Housing and Building Research Institute, will remain open everyday till May 11.

The minister expressed his agony saying that many builders are not following building codes.

Unplanned and illegal structures may increase our sufferings during a major disaster, he added.

He also emphasized the collection of necessary equipments to keep the rescue works smooth.
