Arrest 3 sacked RAB officers:HC

DHAKA: The High Court ordered Home Secretary to take necessary step to arrest the three officers of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) who were dismissed from the service in connection with sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case.

The officers are Rab-11 commanding officer Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lieutenant Commander Masud Rana.

The HC bench of Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam on Sunday passed the order after the hearing on a writ petition filed with the High Court seeking its order to form independent investigation committee to oversee the investigation into the sensational Narauanganj seven-murder.

Dr Kamal Hossain moved for the writ petition.

Earlier in the morning, Dr Bijoy Kumar Paul, son-in-law of slain lawyer advocate Chandan Sarker, Narayanganj district lawyers Association president advocate Shakawat Hossain Khan and Amra Narayanganjbashi Executive president Mahbubur Rahan Ismail filed the petition.

Home Ministry, Law secretary, Public Adminsitration secretary and National Human Rights Commission chairman were made the defendants in the writ petition.  

Earlier on May 5, the High Court ordered the government to form a committee for an overall investigation following allegations on involvement of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the crime.

On May 7, the government formed the committee, headed by additional secretary at the public administration ministry Shahjahan Ali Molla, to investigate into alleged involvement of RAB and whether the administration and law enforcers were in any negligence in preventing the killings.

On April 30, Narayanganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and five others were found dead floating on River Shitalkkhya after 3-day of their abduction.
