JOYPURHAT: Five suspected militants of banned outfit Jama`atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were detained from Tazpur village of Panchbibi upazila Monday.

Panchbibi Thana OC Biman Chandra Kormokar said, “They were picked up from a resedence of a JMB member Shirajul Islam, who was on bail.”

Shirajul Islam was one of the suspected militant, who was arrested from Khetlal Thana in Joypurhat in 2005.

The detained were: Tanvir Hossain Adnan, 28, Al Mamun Shwapon, 25, Golam Mahbub, 25, Lutfar Rahman, 29 and Reaz Uddin, 27.

Police said they also seized ten bottles of phensidyl, a laptop with some CDs and a camera.    

“The JMB men were planning to carry out subvesive acts,” Kormokar said.

Two different cases were filed with Pachbibi Thana.
