Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain has expressed serious concern over several ongoing issues between Bangladesh and India, including recent push-ins from India, border killings, diplomatic delays, and new visa restrictions affecting Bangladeshi citizens.
Touhid Hossain was speaking to reporters at a press conference at his office in Dhaka on Tuesday (June 3).
The adviser said, “Push-ins from India are happening again and again, and even with regular efforts, we haven’t been able to stop them. Letters have been sent through official channels, and now we are trying to work on it using consular methods.”
He mentioned that after verifying identities, the government has sent back some people who were forced into Bangladesh by Indian authorities.
On the issue of the deportation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Touhid Hossain said that diplomatic communication is still ongoing, but no reply has yet come from India.
He also addressed the issue of border killings by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), saying, “We have been raising our voice about this, but we must do more to bring these incidents to an end.”
When asked about the increasing difficulties Bangladeshis are facing with visas in different countries, he said some citizens and businessmen have created the problem themselves. “These issues have grown because of the actions of some of our own people,” he added.
