DHAKA: Three cyclists are likely to visit Toronto of Canada from Alaska, a state of United States of America (USA), crossing some 3000-kilometer by cycling.
Two of the three cyclists are Bangladeshi nationals Kanak Adhikari and Muntasir Mamun. Another cyclist of the group is Australian national Sarah Jos Saltmars.
They are likely to hold the tour in the first week of the June on a campaign on safety measures in use of plastic goods.
The Canadian High Commission organized a program in this regard at the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
The Canadian High Commissioner to Dhaka Heather Cruden and Deputy Chief Mission of US in Bangladesh Jamie Foss spoke in the program.
One of the cyclists Muntasir Mamun mentioned the objectives of their cycle tour in the program.
He said the carbon emission is increasing in the world which can be a threat to the world. He also claimed that the use of excessive plastic bottles and goods is responsible for the threat to the environment.
Muntasir further said they would collect the information about plastic goods and spread the anti-plastic campaign through their road march from Alaska to Toronto.
“We have decided to hold our operations in USA and Canada to curtail the use of plastic and carbon,” he added.
Heather Cruden greeted the cyclists for their courageous and heroic step. She further said that Canada is a big country and cycling all over it will be a great achievement.
Confirming about the safety reason, Jamie Foss warned them about the wild animals during their tour.
However, two US made cycles were exhibited in the program.
