2 ex-RAB officers on 5-day remand

NARAYANGANJ: A Narayanganj court on Saturday placed two former RAB officer on a 5-day remand in sensational Narayanganj 7-murder for police interrogation.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Chandni Rupam passed the order in response to a 10-day remand plea after the two accused were produced before the court around 2:00pm. 

The arrestees are - former Commanding Officer of RAB-11 Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, son in law of Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, and Major Arif Hossain. 

They were taken to Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate court around 2:00pm.

Earlier in the day, police arrested two former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officers from Dhaka cantonment area for their suspected link with sensational 7-killing case. 

Narayanganj Police Super Dr Khandakar Muhith Uddin and Dhaka Cantonment Thana Duty Officer Mamunur Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews. 

Earlier, the High court asked inspector general of police to take steps to arrest the trio and hand them over to the detectives investigating the sensational case.

The order was faxed to the IGP's office around 9:30pm Sunday, Supreme Court Registrar AKM Shamsul Islam said.

The three- Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana - were withdrawn from RAB-11 on April 29 and forced into retirement on May 6.

On April 30, seven bodies including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four aides and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river.

They were kidnapped from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on April 27.
