NATORE: Police detained five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student organissation Chhatra Shibir, including Ameer of Sadar Municipality Unit Atiqul Islam Russell, from a hospital here on Wednesday morning.

Other arrested are Jamaat activists Mehedi Hasan, Jalal Uddin, Nur Islam and Shibir activist Abdullah Al Mamun.

Natore Police Super Rafiqul Islam told that police detained them while holding a secret meeting at Islami Hospital here.

Assistant Police Super (circle) Apel Mahammood said the activists were taking preparation for staging a demonstration demanding release of the top Jamaat leaders.

Arrested were sent to the court after completing legal procedure at about 2:30 pm, he added.
