DHAKA: Ruling Awami League-backed chairman aspirants won in nine upazilas, while BNP-backed came out victorious in five in sixth phase upazila polls.
AL candidates were elected unofficially in Taltali, Sadar, Kaunia of Borguna district and Gangachara of Rangpur, Kamarkand of Sirajganj, Kalukhali of Rajbari, Bijoynagar of Brahmanbaria, Sadar and Sadar South Upazila of Comilla.
BNP candidates won in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh district, Pirgachha of Rangpur, Basail of Tangail and Sadar upazila of Gazipur.
The poll results were published on Monday night. Of the upazila, by-poll was held in Tarakanda of Mymensingh.
According to the sources of Election Commission, some 61 people vied for the chairman post, 69 for vice chairman post and 49 for woman vice chairman post.
A total of 1,656,633 voters got opportunity to cast ballots at 4,470 boots of 674 polling centers. Of the voters, 819,970 were male and 836,663 were female.
Earlier, first phase upazila polls held on February 19, second phase on February 27, third phase on March 15, fourth phase on March 23 and fifth phase polls held on March 31.
