DHAKA: The High Court exempted former Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda as the Daily Star authority sought pardon for publishing inaccurate news.
Following the high court’s order, ATM Shamsul Huda appeared before the court on Tuesday where the lawyer on behalf of the Daily Star Tanzibul Alam sought pardon as the newspaper published news about him by mistake.
Earlier, the High Court summoned ATM Shamsul Huda to explain his comment that the judiciary was politicized.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain asked him to appear on June 3.
The daily published his comment on it on May 18 which misinterpreted and went wrong.
According to the report of it Huda said “All constitutional bodies, including the Election Commission and the Public Service Commission, as well as the judiciary have been politicized, and incompetent people are getting important posts there...the constitutional bodies have to be freed from politicization. Otherwise, the country will go backwards.”
However, Daily Star published a corrigendum on May 29, in this regard where they proclaimed that the news was inaccurate and they also sought a pardon in this regard.
After a hearing the high court bench Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain released ATM Shamsul Huda from the charge of dishonoring the court on Tuesday.
Dr Kamal Hossain made the hearing on behalf of former EC chief ATM Shamsul Huda in the court.
