SATHKHIRA: Unknown assailants slaughtered the wife of a police constable in Mehedibagh area of the district town Sunday morning.

The dead was identified as Mariyam Begum, 47, wife of constable Shamsur Rahman of Morelganj thana in Bagerhat district.

Sathkhira Sadar thana OC Sahjahan Khan said that the assailants slaughtered Mariyam, a mother of four children, at her house with a kitchen knife (Boti) sometime at dawn.

On information, police rushed in and recovered the body. They also seized a ‘boti’ from the spot.

Additional Police Super of Sathkhira Sayed Moshfiqur Rahman visited the scene.

Details of the incident were still sketchy.
