DHAKA: State should take the responsibility of the killing of people in city’s Mirpur Bihari camp, commented National Human Rights Commission chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman.
He said at a workshop, organized by the commission at Rupashi Bangla hotel in city Tuesday morning.
The commission chief said that after the war of independence Bangabandhu told the nation that the state would take responsibilities of all people, irrespective language and racial identities.
Condemning the killing of Bihari people he said that the criminals should immediately be brought under justice.
The human rights situation in the country will not improve if the government does not assist the Commission, he remarked.
Regarding Narayanganj 7-murder incident Mizanur Rahman remarked it is widely said that ‘extra judicial murder’ has been stopped in the country, but there is an incident of 7-murder.
The state cannot ignore its responsibilities, he added.
He also expressed his doubt about whether the people in administration are doing their duty properly.
Giving examples of some irregularities, the Commission boss said that problem is every sector in society. We should solve these problems. It is not possible with the cooperation of the government.
New Zealand Human Rights Commission former chairman Rosslyn Noonan, National human Rights Commission secretary MA Salam and national Human Rights Commission member Kazi Rezaul Haque, among others were present at the workshop.
