BRAC CENTER INN: Corruption exists in every layer of private universities. Certificates from the varsities are available from TK 50,000 to 3-lakh. The universities are now depended on certificate sales since there is no law regarding this.

A research on private universities revealed this grim situation at a program, organized by Transparency International Bangladesh at BRAC Center INN in city on Monday.

TIB’s research and policy department deputy program manager Nina Shamsun Nahar and director Mohammad Rafiq Hasan read out the research reports.

TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman and its deputy-executive director Dr Sumaiya Khair, among others, were present at the event.

The research further said that different sorts of transaction are held in establishing private universities. A university takes Taka 3 lakhs from each student for certificate.

According to the research, from Taka one-crore to 3-crore is illegally transacted for approval of a private university.

Besides, illegal money transaction is revealed in different sections of the university.

Currently, many businesspeople are behind the establishment of private universities in the country. They consider establishing private universities as a profitable business, research added.
