BARISAL: A Barisal court on Monday awarded lifetime imprisonment to a couple for involvement in killing their 29-day old daughter.

Additional District and Session Judge M Matiar Rahman passed the order in absence of the accused.

The convicts are Shukhranjan Mistri and his wife Arati Rani of Adhana village of Gaurnadi upazila of the district.

According to the statement, on June 4, 2010 the couple claimed that their daughter was missing.

Locals informed the police about the incident. Later, the law enforcers recovered the body of the child from a toilet tank.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gaurnadi Thana Shahjalal Khalifa filed a case with the thana on the day.

On September 30, 2010, Investigation Officer M Mizanul Haq submitted the report to the court.

After taking depositions from 11 witnesses, the court placed the order.
