DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday summoned three people, including Mirpur DC and OC, for their failure in arresting the accused of the rape of a RMG worker in a running vehicle.
The court also issued a rule to explain why the authorities concerned should not be ordered to formulate policy to ensure the security of women.
The court also ordered to arrest the accused and it also wanted to know, why it would not declare administration’s inactivity as illegal.
The respondents were asked to answer the rule within two weeks.
An HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Quazi M Izarul Haque issued the summon order in a primary hearing of a public interest litigation filed by Barrister Abdul Halim on July 5 on behalf of Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation.
Other two respondents are Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Thana and Officer-in-Charge of One Stop Crises Center of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) who has been summoned to inform about the health of the victim.
They were ordered to appear before the court on July 15 to explain about their failure in arresting the accused.
On July 2, miscreants kidnapped a female RGM worker in Paikpara area of Mirpur in city while she was returning from her friend’s home around 9:00pm and raped her.
Of the three rapists, one is identified as Farid.
Later, the rapists left her before her house on Wednesday morning and fled the scene, victim’s family sources said.
