DHAKA: In Tripura, CPM MPs met the External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, demanding liberalization of the existing visa policy for Bangladeshi nationals visiting India.
As because the Bangladeshi businessmen, students, academics, sports persons, and cultural activists intend to travel to India for trade, research, higher studies, sports, and cultural exchanges, they have requested the issuance of multiple entry visas.
On Monday, three CPM MPs, from Lok Sabha were Jitendra Choudhury, Shankar Prasad Datta, and Jharna Das Baidya from the Rajya Sabha, submitted a memorandum highlighting the pending demand of granting Bangladeshi nationals to issue multiple entry visas to visit India.
In the memorandum, the delegations has stated that, "We are very happy that the Centre has announced several measures to boost relations with Bangladesh, including a new visa policy, that grants five year multiple entry visas to Bangladeshis below 13 years, and above 65 years old.
We have suggested the encouragement of Bangladeshi visa aspirants to enter India from land custom stations located in the northeastern states, through a special quota, or priority to applicants who will help boost the economic development of the region."
