KHAGRACHARI: At least a man was gunned down and two others injured in a gunfight between Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) and United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) in Manikchari upzila of the district on Friday.

Details of the deceased could not be known immediately while both the injured- Shanti Chakma, 20, and Ananda Chakma, 30, -- are the supporters of UPDF.

The injured were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital after giving first aid at Manikchhari Hospital.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, sources of the security forces said, “The gunfight between JSS and UPDF took place over establishing supremacy in the area.”

Sindhukchari Zone commander Lieutenant Colonel Rabbi Hasan told, “We heard about killing one and injuring two others in a gun fight in the area, army patrol team went to the spot.”

Manikchari Thana Officer-In-Charge Safiqul Islam said, “On information, police and army members are on way to the spot.”
