DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached London on Monday on three-day visit for attending Girl Summit 2014 in the UK capital scheduled for Tuesday.
In the maiden girl summit, the Bangladesh premier is set to highlight her government’s firm pledges to eliminate child marriage for the greater national interest.
A flight of Bangladesh Biman (BG-0005) carried the premier and members of her entourage departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London around 9:45am.
The flight landed at Heathrow Airport in London at 3:35pm (local time) where Bangladesh High Commission to United Kingdom Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson and Department for International Development (DFID) Director Anthony Smith welcomed her.
Premier’s entourage includes Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, officials of Prime Minister's Office and the foreign ministry.
This is Sheikh Hasina’s first visit to any European country in her second tenure after the January 5 election.
