18 Pinak victims to be buried today

FROM MAWA GHAT: Dead bodies of 18 passengers of the capsized launch Pinak-6 will be buried Friday.

Munsiganj deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Hasan Badal told media at Mawa Rest House Thursday night.

Thirty six bodies have so far been recovered till Friday early morning from the capsized launch Pinak-6.

Eighteen of them were handed over to their relatives.

Three dead bodies, a male, female and a female baby, were recovered from a river in Barisal’s Hijla Upazila at 1:00am on Friday.

All the dead bodies, which are kept at Panchchar Government Primary School ground in Shibchar, will be buried after Juma prayer as no body has yet to claim the victims.

Munsiganj DC said that if anybody can detect the dead bodies, they will hand over them.

The administration will wait for the relatives of the victims till the burial, he added.

The launch, Pinak-6, which was carrying more than 200 passengers, capsized near Mawa Ghat in Lohajang Upazila of Munshiganj district on Monday morning.

BIWTA has charged six people including the owner of the passenger ferry for causing death by negligence.
