DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion members, in nightlong drives, detained a ringleader and six members of a carjackers' gang from different areas in Dhaka and Sylhet.
RAB also seized seven stolen cars and motorbikes during the drives conducted from Friday night to early Saturday.
The detainees were identified as Abdul Alim, 28, ringleader the carjackers' gang, Al-Amin Islam Rubel, 29, M. Jashim Uddin, 29, Md Imam Hossain Shamim alias Shipan, 25, Ajam Khan alias Raju, 25, M. Bachchu Miah, 31, and Shohag Miah, 25.
RAB disclosed the details on the drives at press conference in its headhunters in the city on the day.
RAB legal and media wing deputy director Mufti Mahamud Khan said the gang had been stealing cars for three to four years.
RAB began conducting operation since it received car theft allegation on July. Tipped-off, RAB nabbed the ringleader in the city’s Taltala area. After getting information from Alim, RAB caught the other gang members in the city’s Tejgaon Industrial area and from Sylhet.
Action would be taken against the detainees maintaining the legal procedures.
