Bangabandhu Chair proposed at Calcutta Varsity

KOLKATA: A proposal has been made to create a chair at the Calcutta University in honour of undisputed leader of Bengali nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Sandwip Das, professor of the University of Calcutta, came up with the proposal in a program marking the 39th death anniversary of Bangabandhu and mourning day titling “Bangabandhu's life and work” at Dwarbhanga Hall of the university on Thursday.

Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata arranged the program.

Professor Sandwip Das further said that the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu was the pathfinder for the liberation of Bangladesh.

Professor Krishna Basu, Chairperson of Netaji Research Bureau, said that Bangladesh can not be thought without Bangabandhu. A leader like Bangabandhu was a must for the freedom of Bengali nation, she added.

Joyontu Kumar Roy, another professor of the university, said that Sheikh Mujib was the leader of common and distressed people. He left the position of Prime Minister for the sake of mass people of Bangladesh, the professor added.

Abida Islam, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, presided over the program where other prominent professors of the university were also present.
