DHAKA: The 10th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former women affairs secretary of Awami League (AL), is being observed on Sunday with befitting manners.
Ruling Awami League and its associate bodies have chalked out elaborate programs to mark the day.
On August 24 in 2004, Ivy Rahman, who was a victim of the August 21 grenade blasts, succumbed to her injuries at city’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Ivy, wife of late President M Zillur Rahman, sustained serious injuries during a rally organized by Awami League, the then opposition party, on Bangabandhu Avenue.
However, sources said the party leaders and activists started the day’s program by placing floral wreaths at Ivy Rahman’s grave in Banani at 9am.
Quran recitation and offering munajat were also held there seeking eternal salvation to the departed soul of the dedicated leader, they added.
Awami League office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap said that the ruling party will also hold a milad mahfil followed special prayers while another milad and doa mahfil will be held at ‘Ivy Concord Tower’ at Gulshan-2 after Asr prayers on the day.
AL, in a press release, requested all the party people to attend the events.
