DHAKA: Shahbagh Thana police held a youth with a firearm on Saturday afternoon from the ruling Awami League rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Saturday.

The detainee is Qamrul Hasan Tutul.

Police recovered a foreign-made gun with 11 rounds of bullet from the detainee who introduced himself as the joint-convener of Juba League Adabar Thana unit.

Shahbagh Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Sirajul Islam said he was brought to the thana.

Police is verifying the license of the gun, the SI added.

Marking the National Mourning Day ruling Awami League organized the rally with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as chief guest.

Senior AL leaders, including Suranjit Sengupta, Matia Chowdhury, Advocate Sahara Khatun and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, were present at the rally.
