DHAKA: Islami Chhatra Sena, student wing of Ahle Jamaat Wal Sunnat, called countrywide half-day hartal for Sunday in protest against killing of TV anchor Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi and demanding arrest of killers.

Nurul Huq Chishti, president of Islami Chhatra Sena, made the announcement at a press conference at Fakirapool of the city on Saturday afternoon.

Flood-affected areas would remain out of the purview of the hartal, he added that the hartal would be peaceful.

Nurul Huq Chishti also claimed that the mystery of the murder can be known if the authorities take Arkanullah Haruni, Tareque Manwar, Kamaluddin Jafri, Khalid Saifullah Bakshi and Mufti Ibrahim on remand.

In response to a question, Islami Chhatra Sena said there would be no problem for the rally of Chhatra League at Suhrawardy Udyan as the hartal would end at 2:00pm and the rally would start at 3:00pm.

Dhaka city president of Islami Chhatra Sena Masud Hossain, Assistant Finance Affairs Secretary of Islamic Front Abdul Hakim and Organizing Secretary of Juba Sena Golam Mahmud were among others present at the press meet.

Miscreants, on Wednesday (August 27), hacked Channel-I Islamic program presenter Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi at his East Razabazar residence in city.

Victim’s son Faisal Faruqi filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana against unnamed eight-nine persons.
