DHAKA: The gold and Yaba tablet smugglers are using rail route especially the Dhaka-Chittagong rail route as their safe and new path for smuggling. 

Recent gold and drugs recovery incidents proved that using Shah Amanat Airport of Chittagong from various countries of Middle East, the smugglers brought Yaba and gold in the capital through rail route. 

Law enforcers think that there are several police check posts in road and highways across the country but rail route is different than highways in security measures. That’s why smugglers are using the route for smuggling. 

GRP Kamlapur Thana statistics showed that over 10,000 Yaba tablets were seized in last months and some 15 were detained in this connection. And most of the consignment came from Chittagong.

Railway GRP Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mazid told banglanews that the law enforcers detained the smugglers as they used it. They might think that it was a safe route.

We succeeded to detain the gold and Yaba drug smugglers due to our active steps, he added. 

On the other hand, intelligence officer said that police searched in different place in road and highways. 

Besides, bus terminals remained under watch of plain dressed detectives specially city terminals. But comparably rail routes are safe for smuggling.
