3 cops hurt in gunfight, 1 bullet-hit

COX’S BAZAR: Three policemen were hurt while a drug peddler sustained bullet injury in a gunfight in Uttaran Housing area adjacent to town bus terminal of the district on Tuesday morning.

The injured policemen are Detective Branch of Police (DB) Sub-Inspector Titu Dutta and constables Sohel and Nazmul.

The bullet-hit yaba dealer is identified as Nazrul Islam, 44, son of late Abul Hossain.

Sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 5:00am on the day.

Then sensing the presence of police yaba dealers opened fire aiming police.

Police also opened fire in reply, leaving the yaba dealer Nazrul Islam injured. Three police men also hurt during the fight.

Meanwhile, police seized 2,500 pieces of yaba tablets, a Light Gun (LG) and two rounds bullet from the spot.

Later, the injured three policemen were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital and Nazrul Islam to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Cox’s Bazar District DB Police Officer-in-Charge Manzur Alam told banglanews three cases were filed with Cox’s Bazar in the connection.
