DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday cleared the way for continuing the trial of a case against daily Amar Desh detained acting editor Mahmudur Rahman.
The court did so by canceling a petition of Mahmudur which he filed following a charge-framing against him in a case related to the submission of personal wealth report.
An HC bench comprising Borhan Uddin and Justice KM Kamrul Kader handed down the order.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said there is no bar to precede trial of Mahmudur.
On June 13, 2010, the anti-graft body issued a notice asking Mahmudur to submit his personal wealth statement. As he did not do so, ACC’s deputy-director Nur Hossain filed a case against him with city’s Gulshan Thana on June 16 and submitted charge-sheet in July.
The court framed charges against the editor on April 28 this year. Mahamudur filed a writ petition with the HC challenging the charge faming on May 25.
Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali and advocate Tajul Islam appeared for Mahmudur at the court.
