7 awarded life term in Noakhali

NOAKHALI: A Noakhali court awarded life-term imprisonment to seven people of a family, including two siblings, in a case of killing a businessman in Eklashpur Bazar area Begumganj upazila of the district.

District and Sessions Judge M Abdul Kuddus Mia handed down the order on Monday afternoon.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each. In default, they will have to serve one more year in jail.

The convicts are M Shawkat Ali, Omar Faruk, Iqbal Hossain Nehan, Jamal Hossain, Abu Bakkar Siddique and two brothers-- Yeasin Arafat and Idris Mia Robi.

The court sources said, earlier on June 15 in 2006, the accused beat decorator businessman Iqbal Hossain Pintu. The following day he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Victim's mother Rowshan Ara filed a murder case with Begumganj police station against them in this connection. Of the convicts, three are fugitive.
