DHAKA: Democracy International (DI) and IFES (International Foundation for Electoral Systems) organized a rally marking International Day of Non Violence that falls on October 2.

The rally with the slogan ‘Songhat Noy, Oikker Bangladesh Gori’ (Stop Violence, Build a United Bangladesh) started at 10:30am Tuesday from Shahbagh passing through Doyel Chattor ended at the National Press Club.

Democracy International Fellows Alumni Association’s members, a multi-party group of youth political leaders, activists from political parties, civil society members and students took part in the event.

The rally, which was attended by around one hundred people, highlighted peaceful political activities with banners, festoons and placards as well as red T-shirts with ‘Songhat Noy, Oikker Bangladesh Gori’ and other messages against political violence.

Fellows from AL and BNP gave brief remarks highlighting the desire to have a peaceful political process in Bangladesh. In addition to Dhaka, similar rallies were held in six more districts-- Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet.
