Latif Siddique may lose party post

DHAKA: Abdul Latif Siddique, who has been controversial for his recent ‘irresponsible’ remarks that demeaned Hajj, may lose his party post.

The ruling Awami League is going to take the decision following Tuesday’s removal of Latif Siddique as the Minister of Post, Tele Communications and Information.

Earlier, the prime minister and also the party chief, Sheikh Hasina, took the removal decision of Latif Siddique, said a competent source in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day, BNP demanded that Minister Abdul Latif Siddique to be expelled from cabinet for his comment on Hajj.

Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan and Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi raised the demand in separate programmes.

Jamaat-e-Islami and Hizafat-e Islam issued similar statements after Siddique said he was against Hajj, Tablig and Jamaat-e-Islami at a discussion in New York on Sunday.
