‘Mahatma is great for all time’

DHAKA: Mahatma Gandhi is a great man for all time in the world. He is not only a resource of India and overcoming the politics, he became the great humanist in the world.

Eminent writer, columnist and researcher Syed Abul Maksud made the observation at a launching ceremony of his book ‘Mahatma Gandhi Camp’ at First Forward Institute in city’s Kalabagan on Wednesday.

Indian deputy high commissioner Sandeep Chakraborty attended the function as chief guest.

Among others, Indian high commission under secretary (press information and culture) Siddharta Chakraborty was present at the event.

Syed Abul Maksud said more books have been written on Mahatma than Vladimir Lenin.

Mahatma is a great man of all time on the planet, he added.

He also observed that Mahatma is not only a resource of India rather he is the great humanist in the world.

During the riot in 1946 in Noakhali, Mahatma warned the nation saying that the fate of Indian subcontinent will be drawn here. He stayed four months at the place to quell the riot.

The partition of India compelled Mahatma to stay in a sweeper colony in the last days of his life.

Sandeep Chakraborty, in his speech, said Gandhiji lives in our souls. “But, we do not express it due to our vanity,” he said.

Mentioning the writer, he further said Syed Abul Maksud carries Gandhi in his in and out.

A devotee of Gandhi like Maksud is rare not only in Bangladesh even in India, he commented.

The Indian high commissioner also upheld the campaigns declared by their premier Narendra Modi in India on Gandhi’s birthday on October 2.
