DHAKA: The immersion of goddess Durga’s idols will be held on Saturday evening, on the final day of the 10-day festivity.
The mother, Durga, will return to her husband, Shiva, in the day according to the religion.
Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, ended Friday as the Mahanabami and the Bijayadashami were celebrated on same day.
City’s Ramkrishna Mission concluded the immersion preparation with rituals on Saturday morning.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad president Kajal Devnath said the worship formally ended on Friday as both the Mohanabami and the Bijayadashami had fallen on the same day following the traditional ‘tithi’.
He said Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee will bring out a procession from city’s Dhakeshwari National Temple premises at 3:00pm on Saturday.
The procession will reach on the bank of the river Buriganga after parading the city’s thoroughfares.
The main immersion ceremony of the goddess Durga will be held in the river Buriganga in city, Kajol added.
The Durga idols will also be immersed in rivers or ponds in the evening across the country.
On the occasion of the festivity, people of Hindu religious community arranged fairs, soirees of devotional songs, discussions and cultural programs with the spirit of puja.
They also distributed foods and cloths among the destitute people in different places in the country.
However, the Puja celebration began on Tuesday.
