DHAKA: The 2030 Water Resources Group (2030WRG) initiated some activities in Bangladesh to efficiently manage water resources in the long term for ultimate economic, public and environmental benefit.
A discussion about the Private Public consultation in Bangladesh was held in Dhaka on Saturday.
The group works in countries facing water related challenges and operates on the premise that governments and the private sector in developing nations realize the need to save water, use it wisely, protect water sources and minimize its wastage and pollution, said a press release.
2030WRG is a partnership among Public Private and Civil Society Organizations that helps governments in developing countries to efficiently manage water resources in the long term for ultimate economic, public and environmental benefit.
Partners include, International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group, World Economic Forum, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, World Wildlife Fund, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Global Water Partnership, leading multi-national companies (including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Nestlé) and civil society organizations.
The current programs are in Mexico, Peru, Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, India and Mongolia.
The activities in Bangladesh are identify, collect, and aggregate water security related data and information sets, at the national level and also with a focus on two industries, leather and textile.
Rise awareness of the water challenge in Bangladesh (scale and urgency), in an effort to mobilize, and engage ‘new actors’ to engage in the water debate and activities in Bangladesh.
In this connection, map relevant stakeholders that are active, or should be active on water issues.
Recommend key focus areas within the industrial-water sector where a 2030 WRG Bangladesh partnership could add value.
The role of the discussion was to involve representatives from the government, private sector and civil society to express their views on the preliminary findings and recommendations of the studies and have an open discussion with the aim to identify opportunities for collaboration.
Andres Berntell Executive Director of WRG & Herbert Oberhaensli, Member of Steering Board of WRG and Dr Ainun Nishat, noted Water Resource Specialist, among others, were present at the event.
