DHAKA: Eminent historian and National Professor Dr Salahuddin Ahmed, 92, passed away due to old age complications on Sunday morning. 

He breathed his last around 6:00am at his Banani residence in city.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at his demise. 

Dr Salahuddin Ahmed was awarded with Ekushey Padak and Bangladesh Sadhinota Padak. 

Salahuddin was born in 1922 at Faridpur, but his academic certificate shows he was born in 1924.

He obtained his BA honours and MA degrees from the Calcutta University and subsequently MA and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and London.

He served as lecturer and Professor of history at the Rajshahi University, and later as professor of history at the Jahangirnagar and Dhaka Universities.
