DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said that the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act will be amended to bring Jamaat-e-Islami under trial for their involvement in the crimes against humanity.
The proposal to amend the ICT Act will be presented in the next cabinet meeting after October 27.
The minister made the disclosure to the journalists after inaugurating the ‘Judicial Mediation Skill Training for Active Judges’ programme at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Auditorium in city in the noon.
The government also has thought so that no war criminal can be released using the Article-49 (Provision on President’s Prerogative of mercy).
The Article-49 said, “The President shall have power to grant pardons, reprieves and respites and to remit, suspend or commute any sentence passed by any court, tribunal or other authority.”
The minister, also ruling Awami League leader, said my personal opinion is that forgiving any war criminal under the article-49 would be a sad thing; it also would be a sad matter if any President does so.
