DHAKA: A three-member investigation committee was formed to look into the tragic road accident at Baraigram upazila on Monday afternoon that left 35 people killed and 40 injured.
The committee, headed by Natore additional district magistrate Mohammad Ali, was asked to submit report within the next three working days.
The two other members of the committee are Natore assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Mizanur Rahman and assistant director of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, said a press release.
Natore district administration, however, formed the committee following an order of the ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
Earlier, 35 people were killed and 40 others injured as two passenger buses collided head-on on Banpara-Hatikumrul road at Baraigram upazila in the district.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Banglanews Natore correspondent said a Chapainawabganj-bound passenger bus of Keya Paribahan collided head-on with a Gurudaspur-bound Athoi Paribanhan in Razzaker Mor area around 3:30pm, leaving 20 people dead on the spot and 55 others injured critically.
Later, 15 more died in different hospitals, he added.
Nevertheless, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed profound shocked at the death.
Obaidul Kader, moreover, asked the concerns to take necessary steps for treatment of the injured.
