DHAKA: War crimes convict Ghulam Azam nominated Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami to lead his Namaz-e-Janaza.
The former Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s son Brigadier General (retd) Abdullahil Aman Azmi informed journalists following his father dead on Thursday night.
Though, he added, when his father came to know that Nizami is now in jail, Ghulam Azam nominated another Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
“Later, I informed him that Sayeede is also in the jail and not to be worried as many other Muslims are ready to lead his Janaza,” he added.
Brigadier General (retd) Abdullahil Aman Azmi made the disclosure about his father’s last wishes around 12:00am following the death of the former Jamaat-e-Islami chief.
The 92-year-old former Jamaat-e-Islami chief breathed his last at 10:10pm at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city.
He, however, also instructed his son before death about his eternal rest, to be laid at their family graveyard in Moghbazar.
The former Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s son said that they had already requested the jail authorities to handover Ghulam Azam’s body without autopsy.
Earlier, the BSMMU director Brig Gen Abdul Majid Bhuiyan said that Ghulam Azam’s body will be handed over by night.
But, according to the Jamaat linchpin’s son, it is yet to be decided when his Janaza will be held as five of his six sons are in abroad.
