DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami former Ameer Ghulam Azam, also war crimes convict, was buried at Moghbazar family graveyard in city on Saturday afternoon after a largely-attended funeral.
Earlier in the day, the namaz-e-janaza of Ghulam Azam was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zohr prayers amid protest.
Brigadier General (retd) Abdullahil Aman Azmi conducted the janaza of his father at 1:50pm.
Ghulam Azam’s other sons could not attend the Janaza as the UK government did not allow them.
Earlier, members of his family and leaders and activists of the party brought the body to the mosque for janaza at 1:00pm from his Moghbazar residence.
Six cocktails were exploded in the morning in city’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area where war criminal Ghulam Azam’s body was taken for Namaz-e-Janaza.
In the morning, Bangladesh Sommilito Islami Jote, Blogger and Online Activist Network (BOAN) and Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree, however, declared to protest the attempt to hold Ghulam Azam’s namaz-e-janaza at the national mosque.
Ghulam Azam, who had been serving 90-year imprisonment for masterminding war crimes during the country’s Liberation War in 1971, died on Thursday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in city at the age of 92
