DHAKA: The city dwellers on Monday are experiencing intense traffic jam that has been crippling different routes of the capital since morning.
The office-goers and school-college-university-goers suffered a lot to reach their destinations.
The traffic gridlock was seen at Gulistan, Shahbagh, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, New Market, Azimpur area.
The vehicles were moving slowly in Jatrabari, Sayedabad, Motijheel, Kakrail, Santinagar, Rampura, Badda, Uttara, Abdullahpur.
However, some passengers were seen trying to reach destination on foot or by rickshaw as they failed to get into the buses.
One Amin Majumder who was on the way from Malibagh to Bishawa road told banglanews “I hired a rickshaw to go to office as the buses were over crowded. But the rickshaw’s speed was also slow due to congestion”.
Sara Sharmin, a private banker, blamed the increasing numbers of commuters in Dhaka city and the ongoing construction works of Flyovers for nagging traffic congestion. But there is no initiative to expand the roads.
The situation could be severe if proper steps would not be taken immediately, she further added.
Capitals Traffic Control Room sources said the capital is witnessing huge traffic gridlock as city dwellers came out for their work almost the same time after the day of hartal.
He, however, hoped that the intensity of jam may go down at noon.
